Botox and Dysport Treatments
Best for wrinkles associated with muscle movement. Great for “crows feet” and the 11’s (between the eyes), and around the mouth.
The overall advantages of treating wrinkles with Botox:
How does Botox work?
First, a few drops of Botox are injected (with a tiny needle) into the muscle that creates the wrinkle. When Botox is injected into a muscle, it blocks the nerve impulse from reaching that area, and as a result, the muscle weakens. As the muscle weakens, the skin overlying the muscle relaxes and the wrinkles in the skin gradually soften and often disappear. If a specific muscle can’t move, it can’t cause a wrinkle. Botox treatment does not affect normal facial expressions.
What can Botox be used for?
Are there any side effects?
Side effects of Botox are minimal, with slight discomfort upon injection of the solution. Bruising at the sight of injection may occur but is not common. One percent of patients develop a slight lowering or ptosis of one eyelid and, also rarely, asymmetry of facial expression. These effects are temporary and may not even be noticed by the patient. You may resume normal activity immediately. You may see a marked improvement in the moderate to severe frown lines between your brows within days. Improvement may continue for as long as a month, and could last up to 5 months. After that, the muscle action returns. When frown lines reappear, a repeat treatment is necessary to regain the results.
Botox has been safely and successfully used in wrinkle therapy for almost 10 years. It has been approved by the FDA for neurological disorders. In the amounts used for wrinkle therapy, the only possible side effects are temporary and localized to the area of injection.
Our clinic is also teamed up with Brilliant Distinctions, which is a rewards program free to all patients who want to sign up and receive points. Once you start accumulating points you get discounts to apply towards your next Allergan purchase. *Please inquire at your next appointment or visit www.brilliantdistinctions.com
Dysport is a type of protein injection that reduces lines and wrinkles on a person’s face. It treats problems such as frown lines and crow’s feet. When the product was first developed, it was used to treat involuntary muscular spasms and motor disorders. Thanks to its further development, Dysport is now a Botox alternative.
Benefits of Dysport
Many people can benefit from Dysport. It helps people who have deeply etched frown lines and other wrinkles on their face. Both men and women can use this treatment option to look younger and feel more relaxed. It is one of the only ways to treat the signs of aging while still allowing people to retain their natural facial expressions.
Although rare, patients may experience some side effects after receiving Dysport injections. The most common side effect is soreness and bruising around the injection site. If someone has an allergic reaction to the injections, he or she may develop a skin rash and flu-like symptoms.
Dysport treatments should not be used on patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Along with that, the treatments are not meant for people who have a neuromuscular disorder. Patients should tell their dermatologist if they experience any troublesome side effects.
Recovery can take anywhere from one to five days. Immediately following treatment, patients must avoid lying down for two to four hours. Besides that, people must also avoid making facial expressions for one hour after receiving the injections.
Dermal Fillers-Voluma XC and Juvederm Ultra Plus XC
Dermal Fillers- for lost facial volume in the skin folds, around the nose, mouth, and cheeks.
The Juvederm Family of Fillers are injectable gels made from modified hyaluronic acid (HA). HA is a complex sugar naturally found in the human body, where it helps the skin retain moisture and softness. Your healthcare professional injects the smooth gel under the skin using a fine needle. Juvederm XC fillers also contain an anesthetic, called lidocaine, to reduce comfort. Juvederm XC is used to fill deeper lines for a smoother appearance. As you age, it’s not just about the lines and wrinkles-your cheeks lose volume and the skin may sag. Juvederm Voluma XC instantly adds volume and lift lost to the aging for a more youthful profile
Benefits of Voluma XC and where it is injected:
Side effects of Voluma XC are moderate (uncomfortable), and generally last 2 to 4 weeks. The most common side effects include temporary reactions at the treatment site such as tenderness, swelling, firmness, lumps/bumps, bruising, pain, redness, discoloration, and itching.
Benefits of Juvederm Ultra Plus XC and where it is injected: Juvederm XC injectable gel is for injection into areas of facial tissue where moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds occur to temporarily add volume to the skin, especially around the nose and mouth.
Side effects of Juvederm Utlra Plus XC are mild or moderate in nature, and last 7 days or less. The most common side effects include temporary injection-site reactions such as: redness, pain/tenderness, firmness, swelling, umps/bumps, bruising, itching, and discoloration.
Sclerotherapy involves injecting a solution into spider or varicose veins with a very fine needle to cause inflammation and collapse. We do not use saline due to the extreme discomfort and pain associated with it. A special solution is used to decrease the pain and allow for much better results. Once the vein has collapsed, no blood can re-enter and the vein is absorbed by the body’s natural responses.
What causes spider veins to be visible?
These unwanted blood vessels often occur as an inherited tendency, and may be part of the aging process. Long periods of standing or sitting, trauma to the leg (leg veins) from blows or falls, pregnancy, birth control pills, and hormone replacement therapy are all factors that can be involved. Exercise and normal weight maintenance may help prevent the onslaught of spider veins.
How many treatments sessions are needed?
It will depend on the severity of the condition and the extent of improvement desired. Sclerotherapy requires 15 to 30 minutes. Usually, the veins nearly disappear immediately. A few days after the treatment, once the swelling goes down, the results appear even better. Most patients can expect a 50 to 90 percent improvement after several treatments. To guarantee success and counteract the appearance of new spider veins, touch-up treatments may be required every year or so. Since our special solution has made the treatment session very comfortable, the majority of veins can be treated in one session. However, the treatment can be broken down into multiple sessions (1 – 4 weeks apart) if the patient desires.
What happens after the procedure?
After the procedure, the patient returns home wearing a pressure dressing and/or pressure hosiery (for 3 days after treatment) to prevent post-injection bleeding, as well as to promote healing. There are no restrictions. You can exercise, work, etc. as normal. Patients are encouraged to walk immediately after the procedure. A healing interval (typically one month) must pass before you have another series of injections in the same site. After each treatment, you will notice further improvement of your appearance.
How Does Asclera® Work?
Asclera® is a sclerosing agent that is injected into the vein. It works by damaging the endothelium, the cells lining the inside of blood vessels. This causes blood platelets to attach to the lining of the vessels; eventually, cellular debris and platelets cause the blood vessel to clot. Over time, the clotted vein will be replaced with tissue.
Is Sclerotherapy safe?
Sclerotherapy is a safe procedure with few significant risks. Less than 5% of patients experience even minor adverse effects. The most common complication is the development of brownish pigment in the treated area, similar to a freckle, which usually disappears within two to six months. If the veins are unusually weak, there may be some temporary bruising around the injection site. Patients may develop a tiny scab at the injection site if any of the solution escapes from the blood vessels. The scab is treated with an antibiotic ointment until it clears. There is little risk of infection or bleeding from Sclerotherapy. Furthermore, Sclerotherapy is not bad for your circulation. The treatment eliminates veins that are no longer useful, eliminating pain and improving the cosmetic appearance.
What should I avoid after receiving an Asclera® Injection? For two to three days following the treatment, avoid (if you are uncertain, please ask your healthcare provider):Heavy exercise, Sunbathing, Long plane flights, Hot bath or sauna.
Are there any possible side effects to Asclera® treatments?
Severe allergic reactions have been reported following polidocanol use, including anaphylactic reactions, some of them fatal. Severe reactions are most frequent with use of larger volumes (> 3 mL). The dose of polidocanol should therefore be minimized. A doctor should be prepared to treat anaphylaxis appropriately.
In rare cases, formation of small “burns” or ulcers form, usually due to leakage of Asclera® into the skin. They heal in time, but may leave a scar.
You should not be treated with Asclera® if you:
How long is each Asclera® session?
A typical sclerotherapy session lasts 15 to 45 minutes. One injection is usually administered per inch with multiple injections per session. Following treatment compression stockings or support hose should be worn continuously for 2-3 days and for 2-3 weeks during the day time.
Chemical peels speed up your cellular turnover. By doing this, they rid the face, neck, and chest of dead skin and bring forward all of your new skin for a lighter and brighter complexion. They help with fine lines, wrinkles, melasma, teenage and adult acne, acne scars, and hyper-pigmentation caused by the sun. We also do a series of treatments on the back for acne.
Our office utilizes some of the best peel brands in the industry. Our peels that we use are:
Intense Pulse Light (IPL or Photo Rejuvenation)
Our Palomar Max G gets rid of brown spots caused by the sun. The technology of the Max G is designed to also trigger redness caused by rosacea and can also get rid of spider veins on the face. Most patients should plan on 3 treatments one month apart depending on the amount of sun damage or the depth of rosacea they have.
During treatment, wavelengths of light and heat are absorbed by the unwanted pigment in your skin, therefore causes a shattering of the pigment. Expect the brown sun damage to get darker like coffee grounds for about a week to 10 days before they slough off and disappear.
Vascular lesions and rosacea are heated up at just the right temperature causing coagulation and shrinking of the vessels. The blood that causes flushing from rosacea and spider veins gets reabsorbed back into the body. Expect your skin to be red post treatment and possible swelling may accompany this from 24-72 hours post treatment.
The overall treatment feels like a warm rubber band snap with each pulse and may also leave your skin feeling like mild sunburn.
IPL treats a wide variety of skin conditions:
The Palomar Lux 1540 XD&XF
The Palomar Lux 1540 is one of the top of the line lasers in the cosmetic industry. Palomar technology is the perfect choice for the treatment of wrinkles, acne and surgical scars, melasma, striae, unwanted textural irregularities, crow’s feet, blotchy skin. All areas of the body and be treated.
The light and heat of the laser penetrates the skin at the right depth (1540 nm) to promote collagen stimulation and the breakdown of unwanted pigment.
Laser wrinkle treatment smoothes your skin without changing your looks. You look like yourself, but with more youthful-looking skin and without the facial changes and side effects that can be associated with surgical face-lifts, ablative lasers, and injections.
Fractional laser skin resurfacing with Palomar maximizes aesthetic outcomes while minimizing procedure risk and reducing downtime. It’s the smart approach to skin resurfacing that uses microbeams to create areas of treated tissue surrounded by untreated tissue, which provides faster healing and reduced side effects.
Fractional skin resurfacing with Palomar uses laser energy microbeams to create areas of affected tissue that extend through the epidermis into the dermis. These areas can be either “non-ablative” (the laser beams coagulate the affected tissue) or “ablative” (the laser beams vaporize the affected tissue).
Non-ablative procedures are minimal to no downtime procedures. The body’s natural healing process creates new, healthy tissue to replace the areas of affected tissue, resulting in healthier, younger-looking skin.
Stretch Mark Treatment:
Palomar’s fractional non-ablative skin resurfacing laser helps minimize the appearance of stretch marks with little to no downtime. The Lux1540 laser handpiece can improve the unsightly color and skin texture associated with stretch marks, leaving clients with smoother, better-looking skin.
For stretch mark treatment, the Lux1540 handpiece delivers an array of high-precision microbeams to create deep, narrow columns of coagulation in the epidermis and dermis. This triggers a restorative natural healing process that creates healthy new tissue, including the deposition of new collagen.
Imagine yourself with beautiful skin that’s free of scars. It’s not a dream; it’s a reality thanks to laser scar treatment that simplifies scar removal for many types of scars, including: Acne scars and surgical scars.
Laser scar removal uses the latest technology to reduce the appearance of surgical and acne scars. The laser causes new collagen and elastin to form at the site of the scar. This new skin is generally lighter in color and smoother in texture-and over time blends naturally into surrounding skin.
